POETIC photomontages inspired by A SENSE OF PLACE

My name is Claire Gill and I am a fine artist specialising in digital collage.

I use a collage approach to digitally combine original photographic imagery, to create new scenes, visually connecting with places in a refreshingly different way.

Choose from a collection of limited edition, digitally created original artworks inspired by a sense of place, many of which are coastal.

By digitally combining photographs of different locations I create images filled with memories and connections to our environment beyond what a single photograph can do.

I print on the highest quality fine art archival paper by Hahnemuhle with UV resistant inks ensuring vivid colour and longevity for your artwork, wherever you choose to hang it.

I hand number and sign each digitally created original print.

" We are now delighted to own two of Claire's seascape prints. Her works are original and intriguing in both the intricate process of making and in the final image achieved, particularly the use of one texture to trick the eye so as to portray another. Claire's use of colour in the prints is subtle and beautiful. "

Hello. My name is Claire Gill and I am a contemporary landscape and seascape artist based in West Sussex. Over the last fourteen years, I have developed a collection of nearly one hundred limited edition seascape original prints using a contemporary approach to photomontage. I juxtapose and layer original photographic imagery on the computer in order to create surreal, poetic images, which aim to capture a sense of our beautiful British coastline. Find seascape art inspired by the Kent, Sussex, Suffolk, Dorset and Cornish Coastlines as well as some Scottish and Cumbrian locations. I have also begun to explore landcsapes in my series of Treescape prints.

Each part of the coastline carves it’s own personality and sense of space which offers different source material for images. These are places one can breathe and I try to capture this sense of space in my artwork. Similarly the ever changing light is something I interpret in myriad ways.

From expansive dune lined, beaches, which change their stranded sand patterns with every tide, to rocky strands piled with pebbles. Promenades lined with colourful beach huts and deckchairs show our wish to find connection with these places.

Harbours full of weathered boats, strewn with fishing ephemera, ropes, and buoys, filled with the smell of fish and oysters. Quiet almost forgotten places which have seen better days. All are rich sources of visual inspiration, which find their way into the photomontages images.

I love colour and create with an awareness of how colour captures different moods. Look through the seascape art collection to find images filled with subtle, dreamy hues, to bright bold colour palettes. There is something to suit any interior and similarly, art to suit any wall.

As I begin to explore landscape I have taken a different approach. Inspired by the work of abstract painters, I have begun to use various markmaking I have photographed in the environment, such as paint marks, and wall textures to create more abstract beginnings.

I then bring the artworks back to a more figurative interpretation of landscape with the adition of trees and plants.

As a seascape artist my approach is to create digital photomontages on the computer. These are not reproductions of a physical painting. These original prints come in three sizes, so can be chosen as a focal point or an enhancement to a room. These small limited editions are printed on Hahnemuhle bright white, cotton rag archival paper with UV resistant inks, exceeding museum standards for longevity in a print.
